John Deere Green

30 06 2009

From her time at the farm and playing with Caleb, Abby has become infatuated with tractors in all shapes and sizes.  We even have John Deere gummies!  But at the aforementioned trip to the Home Depot a few weekends ago, Adam may have been wishing she didn’t like them quite so much.

He couldn’t get her off the lawnmowers! Of course, if he’d been allowed to turn them on, she would have wanted off quickly – she only likes them when they are quiet!

Before the rains came…

29 06 2009

It feels like it has been rainy (or at the very least, cloudy) for the past three weeks.  But a couple of weekends ago we did have a day of sun.  Abby and Daddy went to the Home Depot for some “essentials” and came home with a sprinkler.  We set it up, thinking Abby might dance in and out of it a little, without really wanting to get wet.  Boy were we wrong!  She LOVED it and was drenched in no time.  She even rubbed dirt on herself and then washed it off in the “shower.”  What a ham!

Potty Training Bootcamp

27 06 2009

Abby spent last week with Grammy and Grampy in Bar Harbor.  She had a great week and visited lots of her friends there.

But the major accomplishment of the week is that she is now potty trained!!!  She had been doing well at home with us at night, but not always telling us when she had to go.  No more.  She’s a lean, mean, peeing (and pooping) machine! She’s been perfect with no accidents since we got home, even going for two hours in the car without peeing on our ride home on Sunday.  So cool.

Sorry, no pictures for this one :)

Sick Girl

25 06 2009

Abby had a great day yesterday, until about 5pm when she started yawning and saying she was tired.  This is rare, since, like most two year olds, she never admits to being tired!  She didn’t eat dinner, and just wanted to lie on the couch.  She felt hot,but since none of the 6 fancy-schmancy thermometers in our house ever seem to work, we weren’t sure of her exact temperature.  We gave her Motrin and put her to bed.  And she slept – until about 11.  Then she was up every 1/2 hour (at least) until Adam finally brought her to our bed around 2.

She seemed better this morning, but still warm, so we gave her more Motrin and sent her to daycare.  Daycare called at 1 this afternoon saying that her fever was back, wouldn’t go down with Tylenol, and she wasn’t eating.  And she was asking for me.  So I cancelled my two meetings and went to get her.  This is how she spent the afternoon:

Sick

On a personal note, this is the first time in almost three years that daycare has called to tell me I should come get her when she’s been sick.  She’s always fine there – through colds and ear infections (many) and bumps and bruises.  So the mere f act that they called scared the crap out of me.

As of bedtime tonight, she had eaten yogurt and a popsicle for “dinner.”  We gave her a bath, and she actually asked to get out early and was shivering and crying uncontrollably.  She fell asleep quickly.  Temp around 102, going down to about 100 with medication.  This is her MO though – when she’s running any kind of temperature, her body feels like it is on fire.  I just hope she gets some rest tonight!

Puddles!

13 06 2009

We’ve had a few days of rain, but Wednesday was just mostly dreary with little actual rain.  Mimi bought Abby rain boots a couple of months ago, and Abby loves stomping in the puddles!

And yes, those are cats on her boots – very cute!

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

10 06 2009

Tuesday was Adam’s birthday, but we celebrated with some family and friends over the weekend. (More celebrating to come with the Read side of the family!)

We had a great time with Josh, Danis, Caleb, the Manjourides family (Maddie is adorable!), Anne, Art, Matt, Sue, and Wo.  Thanks to all for coming!  Abby helped me make yummy chocolate cupcakes – and really liked the batter… not sure where she gets that from…

Toes Shoes and Socks

6 06 2009

Anyone who knows me knows how much I LOVE flip flops, and I’m doing my best to impart my love to Abby.  She has three pair already for this summer – purple, brown, and black with pink flowers.  Today she wanted to wear the black ones out to play, but didn’t want to take her socks off.  I’ve been known to wear the flip flops and socks as a matter of convenience, but perhaps I need to set a better example :)

Big Girl!

4 06 2009

Abby keeps finding new and exciting ways to play on her swingset.  She swings on the side bar, and has been swinging on her belly on the “big people” swings.  She’s sat on the swings before, but today she was actually swinging on it! So exciting!

And on a personal note, I got my blackberry back today and the camera is fixed! So more “action photos” to come!

Happy 2nd Birthday Caleb!

28 05 2009

Caleb Birthday

Caleb turned 2 last Wednesday, and his party was last Saturday.  We had a great day celebrating his big day!  He got lots of great new toys and clothes, and he and Abby had a great time “sharing” his new stuff.

Abby, Adam and I got him a new slide…

Sue and Wo got him a wagon…

If we’d only known we’d be taking turns hauling him and Abby up and down that hill all weekend!

Caleb was quick to load up the wagon and head off up the hill!

Anne and Art got him a great desk (the light was a big hit!).

He got tons of other great stuff – a Big Wheel from Nana, clothes, more toys, including a bubble wand from Penny and Dean, and lots of great clothes!

The kids all had a great time playing in the ball house too! Abby played with Caleb’s cousins Maddie and Lance…

And was just too cute in her new favorite hair do – the ponytail!

What a great day! Thanks to Josh, Danis, and Caleb for a wonderful celebration of “Big C’s Big Day!”

Pigs at the Farm

25 05 2009

Aunt Carole and Uncle Kenny have some new residents at the farm.  Abby hasn’t met them, but can’t wait to!  We’re just hoping we get back to Canton before they’re bacon!

I shall call the one facing the camera Wilbur!
